During the period from September to December 2018, the survey “The Role of Business in Combating Corruption: Armenian Reality” was conducted among 188 Armenian organizations.
The survey was conducted in the scope of the “Armenia: Promoting Anti-Corruption Conduct and Reforms” implemented by the “Center for International Private Enterprise”, the Armenian Lawyers’ Association, the Corporate Governance Center and the Yerevan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, with financial support of National Endowment for Democracy.
188 organizations mentioned the factors promoting corruption in Armenia.
With regard to factors promoting corruption the respondents attached nearly the same importance to the problems of the state and local government (23%), the weak economic system (22%), the weak civil society (20%) and the weak judicial system (22%). It is noteworthy that the non-responsible position of companies, as a factor promoting corruption, has a relatively low share (8%), which can be concluded from the fact that Armenian companies are not fully aware of the importance of their active anti-corruption position. In the group of “other” factors promoting corruption, the consequences of Soviet heritage, lack of political will, shortcomings in the legislative field, bureaucratic failures, low salaries, etc. were mentioned.
