ALA Representatives participated in the Third International Corporate Directors Forum in Kyiv

The Third International Corporate Directors Forum, organized by the Professional Corporate Governance Association (CGPA)  and the International Finance Corporation (IFC), with the support of the Center for International Private Enterprise (CIPE) was held on December 4 in Kyiv.

Mariam Zadoyan,  Project Manager of the Armenian Lawyer’s Association (ALA) component of the “Armenia: Promoting Anti-Corruption Conduct and Reforms” Project, Suzanna Soghomonyan, ALA board member and Narine Melikyan,  Project Manager of the Corporate Governance Center (CGC) component of the “Armenia: Promoting Anti-Corruption Conduct and Reforms” Project and Aharon Chilingaryan, CGC board member also participated in the forum.Forum gathered more than 180 participants. Among them were members of the supervisory boards of Ukrainian and foreign companies, representatives of government institutions, heads of large and small companies, representatives of investment companies, banks and international organizations involved in the process of formation and development of corporate governance and the activities of supervisory boards.

The goal of the forum was the familiarization of a wide range of specialists working in the field of corporate governance with the best practices of the independent directors’ work in companies and relevant aspects of international advanced corporate governance practices.

The Forum was opened by Oleksandr Saenko, Minister of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, and Oleksandr Okuniev, Chairman of the CGPA Management Board, who emphasized the importance of the effective work of supervisory boards of enterprises of all forms of ownership, which give impetus to the faster development and stabilization of the economy as a whole.The focus of the forum was the following:

  • Recruiting Board’s members – where, how, for how much, what requirements, etc,
  • Effective Supervisory Board, as a pledge and factor of sustainable development of non-profit and charitable organizations, public associations,
  • The “celebrity” in the Board – who and why is invited, do they meet expectations?

ALA participants have exchanged experiences, discussed legislative innovations, and considered cases for establishing effective corporate governance and supervisory boards.
