Regular Meeting of the Business Advocacy Network was held on 24 May. The meeting discussed the changes in network strategy and regulations. Vladimir Amiryan presented the following main points that were changed:
According to the former regulation, the Secretariat of the Network should consist of the representatives of 5 Member Organizations of the Network. During the previous working meeting, the majority of the participants agreed to the amendment in the Regulations, according to which the Secretariat will be represent by one organization, instead of the representatives of 5 organizations as indicated in the former regulation. Three commissions will be established within the network: Tax, SME or Anti-Corruption.
The next important change is the choice of motto, which reads:"The united voice of the business community."
A new clause providing the requirement to submit more proposals to the government has been added in the strategy as well. According to the clause, based on the current issues, in addition to raising the issue, to clearly and formally formulate 1-2 proposals on behalf of the Network and submit to the Government. V. Amiryan mentioned that in the recent period, V. Shatverov has developed and sent a package including 5 proposals.
Given the great difference in awareness that has emerged recently as a result of workshops organized in marzes and in Yerevan, the need of greater involvement of regional companies in Network operations has been noted as well.
There was also a discussion about the involvement of new members and termination of membership. It was mentioned that the Network currently has 14 members instead of 18. Membership of 4 organizations has been suspended according to the relevant point of the regulation (due failure to participate in the activities of the Network without grounded). The secretariat tried to contact them, but there was no response. The new edition of the regulation clearly specifies a period of one year. After expiration of that period the Secretariat informs the member organization in writing about it and the membership is deemed terminated in the event if the written reply is not received within 2 weeks.
The meeting also discussed the future plans of the Network.
Notably, the member of the network, the “Armenian Lawyers’ Association” NGO, expressed readiness to be included in the activities of the Anti-Corruption Commission, which will be established in the scope of the Network.
