What Factors can prevent the Emergence of Corruption Risk?

16.08.2019

What factors can prevent the emergence of corruption risk?  188 organizations answered this question in September-December 2018 during the survey “The Role of Business in Fighting Corruption:  Armenian reality”.

Relatively high percentages of respondents were mentioned the control of business processes (18%), recognition and management of their corporate culture (15%), risk management (14%). On the one hand, it is encouraging that respondents view anti-corruption measures in the context of the controlled environment and the formation of corporate culture. On the other hand, the number of voices referring to reporting and training was relatively low.

As the chart below shows, the internal factors were considered as preventive factors in the survey. However, respondents also mentioned external factors in their responses such as:

-       implementation of fair tax policy;

-       Exclusion of monopolies and state levers for personal gain;

-       Excluding the compatibility of politics and business.

Notably, the survey was carried out in the framework of the "Promotion of Corruption and Reforms. Armenia" project, which is implemented by the" International Private Enterprise Center "NGO," Armenian Association of Lawyers "NGO," Corporate Governance Center "NGO and Yerevan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, with the financial support of the National Endowment for Democracy.
