What are the Factors promoting Corruption in Armenia?
188 organizations respond to the question on the factors promoting corruption during the survey “The Role of Business in the Fight against Corruption: Armenian Reality”. conducted in September-December 2018.
Respondents attached almost the same importance to problems of state and local government (23%), weak economic system (22%), weak civil society (20%), and weak judicial system (22%).
It is noteworthy that the irresponsible position of companies, as a factor promoting corruption, has a very low portion (8%), which suggests that Armenian companies are not fully aware of the importance of their active anti-corruption position.
They have indicated in the group of “Other factors” the consequences of the Soviet legacy, lack of political will, shortcomings in the legislative field, bureaucratic bickering, the problem of low salaries, and so on
Notably, the survey was conducted in the scope of the “Armenia: Promoting Anti-Corruption Conduct and Reforms” Project implemented by the “Center for International Private Enterprise”, the “Armenian Lawyers’ Association” NGO, the “Corporate Governance Center” NGO and the “Yerevan Chamber of Commerce and Industry” with financial support of the National Endowment for Democracy.
