Introduction of the Institute of Beneficiary Owners is the Most Effective way to fight Monopolies

Individuals engaged in business activities have repeatedly voiced the most pressing issues in the field of economic competition. Today’s round table, which was organized in the scope of “Evidence-based Advocacy for Reform” project was aimed to raise these issues. Representatives of the organizations implementing the project and business advocacy organizations attended the discussion.

Mariam Zadoyan, expert of the CSO Anti-Corruption Coalition of Armenia presented the current legislative gaps, which have resulted in the creation of a situation it is possible to be "de facto" in monopoly position, but “de jure” not. And the State Commission for the Protection of Economic Competition does not have sufficient levers to carry out objective control over the sector.

The solution of this problem, according to Mariam Zadoyan, is the introduction of the Institute of Beneficiary Owners. When the business entities n shall submit declaration of the beneficiary owners of their company.

Representatives of the European Business Association and the Union of Information Technology Enterprises, as well as business representatives, discussed cases of abuses and violations in this area.

It should be noted that in the nearest future an event on reforms in the field of free economic competition and existing problems and risks will be held, during which recommendations to reduce risks will be presented.
